Río Comate

The Comate River is a natural freshwater swimming spot in Santo Domingo province, a short drive from the capital. Its clear, cool water forms shallow pools among rocks and tropical vegetation, ideal for swimming, picnicking and escaping the city heat. It gets busy at weekends and during Holy Week, when families arrive with coolers and music. It is best to go early, wear water shoes and sun protection, and follow local advice; the water level can rise during the rainy season.
