Salto El Berro

Salto El Berro, also known as Salto del Candongo, is one of the highest and most voluminous waterfalls in the country, hidden in the mountains of Blanco, in the El Candongo community near Bonao. It is reached after a hike of about 5 km each way from the Tireo dam, of medium difficulty: the final stretch is technical and slippery. At the base the pool is deep, so you need to know how to swim. It is best to go with a local guide and bring water, food, long sleeves, a hat, insect repellent and hiking shoes, and carry all your rubbish back out. The best season is the dry one.
