Ruinas de La Isabela
Category: Cultura / histórico · Destination: Puerto Plata
The Ruins of La Isabela are the remains of the first European settlement in the Americas, founded by Christopher Columbus in 1493 during his second voyage, on the coast of Luperón in Puerto Plata province. What survives includes the foundations of the church, the plaza, the royal warehouse and what is believed to have been Columbus's house, plus a small museum with archaeological pieces. The site, declared a historic heritage site, is explored on foot among stone walls facing the sea and is an ideal stop for those interested in the history of the Discovery. It is reached via the Luperón road, about 40 minutes from Puerto Plata.
