Parque Nacional Los Haitises
Category: Naturaleza / parque · Destination: Hato Mayor

Los Haitises National Park protects the most spectacular coast of the bay of Samaná: the largest mangrove forest in the country, limestone formations called mogotes and caves with Taíno pictographs over 750 years old. It is explored by boat from Sabana de la Mar or Caño Hondo, crossing the Bahía de San Lorenzo with stops at the Cueva de la Arena and the Cueva de la Línea. Its name means «high lands» in Taíno and it is often compared to Ha Long Bay.
