Cueva de las Maravillas
Category: Naturaleza / parque · Destination: San Pedro de Macorís

The Cueva de las Maravillas, in San Pedro de Macorís, shelters close to 500 cave paintings and Taíno petroglyphs along a lit underground walkway, discovered in 1926. The guided tour of about 30 minutes ends at a viewpoint over the Río Soco. The same complex also has an ornamental plant maze and an iguana park featuring the rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta), a species endemic to the island, making it a perfect family visit halfway between Santo Domingo and the east.
